A
non-contact method for the rapid measurement of cross sectional area of small
fibres. The design incorporates the facility to rotate samples and to transport
then laterally to measure a series of "slices" along the fibre.
The
system uses the Mitutoyo laser micrometer for the |

accurate measurement of dimensions. Instrument control and data
collection is from the Dia-Stron PC applications software and with a few key
strokes the dimensional data can be applied to normalise tensile data for more
accurate determination of fibre properties. (See importance of dimensional
