New visual hair analysis strengthens Dia-Stron’s global testing capabilities

Dia-Stron has announced that they have added new hair visual measurement capabilities to its growing global contract testing services, supporting product performance and claims for highly desirable consumer visual attributes. Using the latest advanced technology from their US subsidiary Bossa Nova Vision, the instruments will complement existing single hair fibre and tress testing methods used for claims such as hair strength, repair and protection, combability, and smoothness.

Dia-Stron’s innovative hair testing services are now positioned to substantiate a wider range of hair product claims for the cosmetics industry globally. These innovative hair tress evaluation techniques are based on cutting-edge vision and image analysis algorithms. The new instrumentation includes Bossa Nova Vision systems for testing hair shine (Samba Hair), frizz/volume/curl retention (Shuffle Multi 360), colour (Mambo), and repeated combing/anti-breakage (Sirtaki), further bolstering R&D development and final product claim substantiation.

The expanded testing services, ideal for raw ingredient suppliers, final product and hair appliance manufacturers, can be performed on a variety of hair types and adapted to different treatment protocols to assist product development stages and final product release. Dia-Stron’s application scientists, with their long-established hair experience and expertise, work closely with their clients and recommend testing methods relevant and best suited to sought-after claims. The Dia-Stron testing services deliver independent and robust data with statistical analysis, conducted in a state-of-the-art testing laboratory in the UK.

Dr Rebecca Lunn, Head of Applications, said:
“Claims backed by robust scientific data are key to building consumer trust in products and provide a competitive edge in the market. The new Bossa Nova Vision imaging techniques are a great addition to our testing portfolio, enabling Dia-Stron to continue to support innovations and product development in the hair care sector.”

Dia-Stron acquired Bossa Nova Vision in May 2023 to expand their reach in delivering innovative measurement solutions to the personal care and cosmetics industry. Together, Dia-Stron and Bossa Nova Vision aim to continuously improve physical and image-based fibre testing services and instruments. The next few years will see further investments in instruments at Dia-Stron’s contract testing laboratory and new instrument launches.
